6 Easy Ways to Create an Everyday Vintage Look by Anna Falkenmire

Peroxide perms, bright pink lipstick, ABBA-esque sequined flares and garments overflowing with adornments of feathers and velvet and general fluffiness. Probably in leopard print. These were the images that used to flash through my mind when someone said “vintage”.
.
.
As daring and exciting as it sounded, I was never bold enough to dive into the exotic world of vintage. Then, a few months ago, everything changed.
I started shopping second-hand for environmental reasons and was overwhelmed with the huge market for vintage goods that were not in the genre of costumes, but rather charming and fashionable pieces to give character to my everyday wardrobe.
.
Weaving vintage fashion into your everyday style is not only easy, it is a sure way to both fit in and stand out. To find the balance between uniquity and trends.
.
To make an outfit an experience.
.
You don’t need to be ‘a certain .type of person’ to pull off vintage clothing. Think mum jeans that hug your waist, t-shirts with patterns gliding across the fabric, simple summer slips and hypnotising floral bodysuits. There is a vintage style for everyone.
.
Here are 6 easy ways to create an everyday vintage look:
.
1. A buttoned blouse that can be tied into a crop top, paired with high-waisted bottoms.
.
2. A simple t-shirt (worn tucked in) with a uniquely old fashioned pattern or logo.
.
.
3. Replace your generic skinny jeans with some true-blue worn-and-weathered mum jeans – if they’ve lasted this long, they’ll last forever.

.
4. Accessorise! Add a vintage hat, scarf, earrings, belt, bag or even shoes to your look to take it from ordinary to one-of-a-kind.
.
.
5. Skip the mockery of fast-fashion and invest in a genuine vintage corduroy, denim or even faux-fur jacket or coat. It’ll effortlessly take you from a casual day to a glamorous night.
.
.
6. Try a light summer midi dress with a belt– the simple cuts are so on-trend and you’ll have the advantage of knowing your dress is both one-in-a-million and has stories and adventure hiding in the seams.
.
Maybe you love bright pink lippy, and maybe a pair of flower-power flares is exactly what you’re looking for. But vintage is not restrictive.
.
It’s freeing.
.
It is not about one era, not about one style, not for one type of person. It is a fashion journey, and it is completely up to you how far you go.
